Anyone But The Earl by Irene Davis
This is an interesting, amusing and sweet. Grif and Tavi have known each other for years, Grif is Tavi's older brother's friend. They never really talked until one night when came home early, avoiding the Earl her mother wants her to marry, and goes into the library where her brother and his friends were. She sat and had a drink, discussed a float then got caught and left. He couldn't stop thinking about her after that, even though he knew he couldn't court her because he was going back home. When it's clear to Tavi that her mother won't be happy until she's married to the creepy Earl, she decides decides that it would be better to ruin herself by getting pregnant, then the Earl wouldn't want her. She decides that Grif is the person to do it and goes to see him. Then chickens out. Now it's even harder for Grif to not think about her, and she can't stop thinking about him. She still has to deal with the Earl, and her pushy mother, and when things get dangerous she runs to Grif. It's slow reading at times, but it's a great story and has interesting characters.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
